Dear Happy Camper,
Trying to eat healthy snacks? Newsflash! Gluten-free doesn’t always mean it is good for you!
We’ve had a fantastic discussion on the topic of healthy snacks in our Facebook group recently. These were the key takeaways:
- GF packaged foods are often loaded with empty starches, sugar and cheap oils… Causing blood sugar spikes, weight gain and leaving you deprived of real nutrition.Â
- GF packaged foods can be okay at a reasonable quantity. They are tasty and convenient after all. But read the label and choose the ones with wholesome ingredients, such as whole grains instead of starches and no or little sugar.
- Make whole foods the primary staple in your diet: whole fruits, veggies, legumes, beans, grains, nuts and seeds.Â
- Cooking at home from scratch is a great way to ensure the best quality foods.
Every person is different and it’s important to listen to one’s body and observe how you feel. Personally, we feel best eating a plant-based diet low in fat. At the same time, many folks thrive on a diet with quality, grass-fed meats that is lower in carbohydrates.Â
No matter the specifics of one’s diet, the food should be as whole as possible, free of preservatives, chemicals, refined foods and other foods that aren’t really foods.
Wishing all of you the best on your journeys toward gluten-free wellness!
Keep smiling,
